Millions of Europe’s pigs spend their entire pregnancies (nearly four months, more than twice per year) in restrictive and prison-like conditions. In a stall, a sow’s movement is so restricted that she cannot carry out most of her most basic natural behaviours. She cannot even turn around.
Thankfully, an EU wide ban on using these stalls after the first four weeks of pregnancy will come into effect on the 1st January 2013.
However at least ten*of the 27 EU member states will not be ready on time for the ban, even though they have had since 2001 to prepare.
Please send a message to the Agriculture Ministers in these member states, telling them to make immediate plans so they can comply with the ban on time and in full : TAKE ACTION NOW
